Bokusaiga artist矢島想月 SOGETSU YAJIMA

Born in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture in 1941
After roaming around for 7 years from the age of 35, Sogetsu, on his own, studied an ink color painting technique called "Bokusai" (painting in ink and watercolors). His free-spirited style of painting is well recognized.
Major works:

Dye painting artist加藤千代 CHIYO KATO

Born in Iwafune-cho, Tochigi Prefecture in 1955
Studied under Sachiyo Ogawa. Developed a unique dye painting technique using battick painting technique. Joined the Exhibition of 100 Female Artists in Tochigi. Held many personal exhibitions in Nihonbashi Takashimaya, Ginza Matsuya, Tobu Utsunomiya Department Store, etc.

Modeling artist松原 賢 KEN MATSUBARA

Born in Toyama Prefecture in 1948
While running an advertising art business in Kanagawa, he taught himself to become a painter.
Awarded in the 41st Independent Art Exhibition in 1973.
Studied under Sanko Inoue, whose art book impressed Matsubara in 1976.
Launched his series of art works with the theme of "sound" in 1985.
Moved his home and studio to Kuroiso City, Tochigi Prefecture in 1990.
Major works:
"Sun and Moon" in 1990 (Wall painting at Main hall of Choanji Temple, Hakone Sengokubara, Kanagawa)
"Voice of Sky" "Voice of Earth" in 1991 (Ceramic Wall at Entrance hall of Seratopia Toki, Gifu Prefecture)
"Hinokuchi" in 1993 (Ceramic Wall at Entrance wall of Citizen Center, Shiroyama, Utsunomiya)

Sculptor栗原俊明 TOSHIAKI KURIHARA

Born in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture in 1951
Completed bachelor and master degrees at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Majored in sculpture. Studied under Shigeru Chiba.
Awarded in the Kita-Kanto Art Gallery Exhibition in 1980 and 1983.
Major works:
Co-creator of "Kaze-no-Matasaburo" sculptures in Gindoro Park, Hanamaki City (1981)
(Received the 1st Hongo Shin Prize in 1984)
"Yodaka-no-Hoshi" sculpture at Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Hall, Hanamaki City (1983)

Ceramic artist斉藤勝行 KATSUYUKI SAITO

Born in Miyagi Prefecture in 1943
Builds "nobori-gama" and "ana-gama" kilns to make pottery in Niizato, Gunma Prefecture.
Very active, holding personal exhibitions in various locations throughout Japan.
This is the 11th exhibition at Gallery Chikuonki.

Wood engraving print artist見目陽一 YOICHI KENMOKU

Born in Motegi-cho, Tochigi Prefecture in 1949
Received the Newton Award (Newcomer award) in the 31st Japan Print Art Exhibition in 1981.
Received the Nihon Seinen-kan Prize for "Wadachi" in 1983.
Wrote "Rules of My Home" series for the Yomiuri Shimbun (Tokyo Edition) in 1986.
Wrote "100 Selections of Nature of Saitama" series for the Asahi Shimbun (Saitama Edition) in 1986-88.
Wrote "Buddhist Images in Nature in Shimotsuke" for the Shimotuske Shimbun in 1997-98.
Published "Kenmoku Yoichi's World" from Shimotsuke Shimbun in 1999.
Held an exhibition in New York in 2003 and 2004.
This is the 13th exhibition in Gallery Chikuonki.
Author of 17 books including "Shiki" (poems and paintings), "100 Selection of Nature of Saitama", and "Kenmoku Yoichi's World".
President of the Japan Engraving Print Institute, member of the Japan Artists Association

Rubbing print artist坂本富男 TOMIO SAKAMOTO

Born in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture in 1951
After graduating from Musashino Art University, majored in oil painting, studied under Joichi Hoshi, print artist. When coming back to his hometown Utsunomiya, studied under Kihei Sasajima to learn rubbing print. Published "Rubbing print by Tomio Sakamoto" from Shimotsuke Shimbun in 2001.
Active in many personal and group exhibitions in Tokyo and other areas of Japan.

Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1947
Received the Tochigi Cultural Encouragement Award in 1993.
Awarded in the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition in 1992 and 1994.
Awarded in the Japan Traditional Lacquer Crafts Exhibition every year since 1991.
Awarded in the Japan New Craftworks Exhibition every year since 1990.

Born in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture in 1973
Enrolled in the Wajima Lacquer Craft Technical Research Center of Ishikawa Prefecture in 1992.
Received the Citizen Art Festival Prize in the Utsunomiya Citizen Art Festival in 1995.
Selected as one of the special entries for the Utsunomiya Citizen Art Festival in 1996.
Awarded in the Japan Traditional Lacquer Crafts Exhibition in 1997, 1999, 2003, and 2004.
Graduated from the Wajima Lacquer Craft Technical Research Center of Ishikawa Prefecture in 1998.
Awarded in the Japan New Craftworks Exhibition in 1998, 1999, and 2006.
Awarded in the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition in 2000.
Participated in the Utsunomiya Art Gallery of Today Exhibition 2003.
Associate Member of Japan Art Craft Association.
